Kodaiji Wakuden
Japan through the Senses
Exploring the World of the Ryotei
Vol.1: Sake
2026.08.28
A Ryotei is a traditional Japanese dining establishment where cuisine, aesthetics, and seasonality are woven together. Every sight, scent, taste, and texture is thoughtfully composed, allowing the dining experience to become a deeper encounter with Japanese culture.
Japan through the Senses is a series that unveils the ryotei experience through different themes. We invite you to engage your five senses, and discover the traditions and philosophy behind the details.
Our first theme is Japanese Sake.
The history of sake dates back to the Yayoi period, when rice cultivation took root in Japan. Originally offered to the deities as part of sacred rituals, sake evolved alongside the daily lives and customs of Japanese people.
We welcome Mr. Takashi Mitachi, a pioneer in the revival of Japan’s aged sake culture, to uncover the hidden depths of our national drink. Through carefully crafted pairings of Japanese cuisine with a selection of sake—including rare vintage sake—and conversations exploring the drink’s past, present, and future, we invite you to discover new dimensions of sake in the intimate setting of our ryotei.
We warmly invite you to join us for this special evening.
